FootballJose Mourinho’s Appeal Thrown Out by UEFA After Confronting Referee Anthony Taylor
- Jose Mourinho will now be forced to serve his entire four-game ban after losing his appeal
- Mourinho was involved in an altercation with referee Anthony Taylor after the Europa League final
- Taylor was later mobbed by supposed AS Roma supporters at the airport
Jose Mourinho has lost his appeal to have his punishment reduced after his case was thrown out by the governing body for football in Europe, UEFA.
Mourinho was captured on camera confronting referee Anthony Taylor at the end of the Europa League final in May, where his AS Roma side lost to Sevilla on post-match penalties.
The Portuguese Head Coach was incensed with some of the decisions the English referee took. In the video, Mourinho was seen hurling expletives at Taylor in what looked like the parking lot.
UEFA charged the veteran manager for going against its code of conduct and hit him with a four-match suspension. AS Roma immediately filed an appeal, but as Roma Press reports, it has been thrown out.
The decision now means that Mourinho will miss more than half of AS Roma's European group-stage games next season.
The Giallarossi finished in sixth place in last season's Serie A standings and will thus compete in the Europa League yet again.
Taylor's decisions in UEL final
In the final, staged in Budapest, Taylor made a couple of controversial decisions during the game.
Sports Brief reported that he first awarded a penalty to Sevilla after Luis Ocampos had been brought down. However, after a VAR review, he rescinded the decision.
Minutes later, Roma thought they deserved a penalty of their own when Ivan Rakitic handled the ball, but Taylor stood his ground and waved the complaints away.
A total of 14 yellow cards were given in the tempered game, with Mourinho criticising the officials in his post-match comments.
Mourinho throws away silver medal
At the same time, Sports Brief reported that Mourinho tossed his runners-up medal into the crowd seconds after receiving it on May 31.

FootballIt was the first time the Portuguese tactician had lost a European final and as expected, he was visibly unimpressed with how the match went.
Bizarre scenes rocked the medal awarding ceremony as Mourinho broke rank and went for his medal alone, before throwing it into the crowd.
